Which part of the island fits you?

Eight questions about the land, the weather and the logistics. Your answers are scored against public data for twelve areas: elevation, rainfall, temperature, lava zones and the drive to KOA.

01 / 08What price range are you considering?

This one doesn't change your matches. I don't have official prices by area, so I use it to search listings with you.

02 / 08How much rain do you want?
03 / 08How high up do you want to live?
04 / 08How often will you fly in and out of Kona (KOA)?
05 / 08Beach or upcountry?
06 / 08Do you plan to rent the home out?

This doesn't change your matches either: rental rules depend on each parcel's zoning, the HOA and County registration, so I check them property by property.

07 / 08How comfortable are you with lava-flow hazard?
08 / 08What's the yard for?

How the matching works

Each answer is scored against each area's median values: rainfall from the Rainfall Atlas of Hawaiʻi, temperature from the Climate of Hawaiʻi atlas, elevation from USGS 3DEP, the share of land in each USGS lava-flow hazard zone, and a typical light-traffic drive to KOA. Lava comfort and the airport count a little more than the others. "No preference" answers are skipped. The numbers are the same ones on each area guide, with sources there, last checked October 22, 2026.

This quiz only asks about land, climate, hazards and logistics. It doesn't ask who you are or who lives in a neighborhood, and it doesn't rank areas by schools. Lava zones vary by parcel, and the Kaʻū profile uses Hawaiian Ocean View.
